First-Time Setup
When LanJAM is first installed and you visit it in your web browser, you will see the setup page. This only appears once — the very first time anyone uses it.
Creating the admin account
- Enter a display name — this is what other family members will see when they look at the login screen.
- Choose a passcode — this needs to be at least 4 characters long. Think of it as a simple password to protect your account.
- Type your passcode again to confirm it.
- Click Create Admin Account.
What is the admin?
The admin is the person who manages LanJAM for the family. As admin, you can:
- Add family members — Create accounts for everyone who will use LanJAM
- Choose the AI model — Pick which AI "brain" powers the chat
- Set safety rules — Customise content guidelines for different age groups
- Monitor the system — Check that everything is running smoothly
- Reset the system — Start completely fresh if needed
What happens next?
After creating your admin account, you will be taken to the login screen. Sign in with the name and passcode you just created.
Once logged in, your first step should be to head to Admin > AI Models and install an AI model. The chat will not work until at least one model is installed and set as the active model.
After that, you can create accounts for other family members from Admin > Users.
