Using Voice Input
Instead of typing, you can speak your message and LanJAM will convert it to text automatically.
How to use voice input
- Click the microphone icon in the message area.
- If your browser asks for permission to use the microphone, click Allow.
- Start speaking. A recording overlay will appear showing the status.
- When you are finished, click Done to convert your speech to text.
The transcribed text will appear in the message box, ready for you to review, edit, or send.
Recording controls
While recording, you have several options:
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Pause / Resume | Temporarily stop and restart recording |
| Clear | Erase the current recording and start over |
| Cancel | Discard the recording entirely |
| Done | Stop recording and place the text in the message box |
| Send | Stop recording and immediately send the message |
Tips
- Speak clearly and at a normal pace for the best results.
- You can review and edit the transcribed text before sending.
- Voice input works on both the conversations page (for starting new chats) and inside existing conversations.
Not working?
Voice input requires the Whisper speech-to-text service to be running. If it is not working, ask the family admin to check the Admin > Status page to make sure Whisper is online.
