Safety Features & Privacy

LanJAM is designed with family safety and privacy as core principles.

Content safety

LanJAM uses a layered safety system based on each person's role:

Children (under 13)

Strict content rules are always active and cannot be turned off. The AI is guided to give age-appropriate responses, avoid unsuitable topics, and keep things friendly and educational.

Teenagers (13–16)

Moderate content rules are always active and cannot be turned off. The guidelines are age-appropriate for teens — more relaxed than the children's rules but still protective.

Adults and Admins

Safety rules are optional. Adults can enable Safe Mode by default in their profile settings, or turn it on for individual conversations. When Safe Mode is off, the AI responds without additional content restrictions.

Customising safety rules

The family admin can customise the specific safety guidelines for each age group from Admin > Safety. This lets you tailor the rules to your family's values and needs. Changes only affect new conversations — existing ones keep their current rules.

Privacy

LanJAM is built to be completely private:

  • Everything stays local — All your conversations, files, and AI processing happen on your home network. Nothing is sent to the cloud, ever.
  • No analytics or tracking — LanJAM does not collect usage data, track behaviour, or send any information anywhere.
  • User isolation — Each family member can only see their own conversations and files. There is no way for one person to access another's chats.
  • No internet required — Once set up with downloaded models, LanJAM works completely offline. Your home network is a private bubble.
  • No training data — Unlike cloud AI services, your conversations are never used to train AI models. What you say stays between you and your local AI.

Why this matters

Because LanJAM is air-gapped (disconnected from the internet), you and your family can explore AI freely without worrying about:

  • Personal information leaking online
  • Conversations being stored on someone else's servers
  • Your data being used for advertising or model training
  • External parties accessing your family's chats
